Associação Brasileira para o Estudo da Psicologia Psicanalítica do Self (Brazilian Association for the Study of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology) (ABEPPS): Brazil
ABEPPS – Brazilian Association for the Study of Psychoanalytical Self Psychology – was founded in June, 2001, in Rio de Janeiro. It has been the result of the pioneer work of Paulo Sauberman, MD (Brazilian Society of Psychoanalysis from Rio de Janeiro) and Renato Barauna, MD (Psychoanalytic Society of Rio de Janeiro) in the study of Heinz Kohut’s ideas in Portuguese language. Consisting mainly of professional psychologists, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, our core purpose was originally to study and divulge Self Psychology Theory in Brazil. Our theoretical focus has gradually enlarged, though, embracing other contemporary perspectives, such as the Intersubjective Systems Theory and Relational Psychoanalysis. ABEPPS academic activities include a number of Study Groups and a monthly scientific meeting.
