New York, NY
Karen Roser with Aviva Rohde
In this workshop we will look at empathy through the lens of self psychology and describe its use in treatment. Theoretical differences between empathy and such concepts as attunement, intuition and optimal responsiveness will be explored. We will also discuss what intersubjectivity adds to the concept and finally what an Intersubjective Self Psychology view of empathy entails. There will be multiple examples given, both from everyday life and from the treatment room, as well as an extended case example. Questions and comments will be welcomed throughout.
