Cape Town Psychoanalytic Self Psychology Group (CTPSPG: South Africa

Established in 1992, the Cape Town Psychoanalytic Self Psychology Group (CTPSPG) provides for ongoing reading, discussion, supervision and training for psychoanalytic psychotherapists in the area of Self Psychology, Intersubjectivity Theory and Relational Theory. A committee of six to nine group members manages and co-ordinates group activities, and liaises with other local and international psychoanalytic bodies. Monthly educational forums provide opportunity for the presentation of original papers and discussion of critical theoretical and clinical issues. In addition, most members belong to smaller reading groups which meet monthly. An introductory reading group covering basic concepts in Self Psychology is offered once a year to new members. Senior psychoanalytic psychotherapists in the group offer individual clinical supervision for practitioners wanting to practice in the Self framework. CTPSPG has also organised a number of national conferences. This has helped the group cement ties with the local and international community of psychoanalytic psychotherapists.
